Frequently Asked Questions

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a medical visit with a provider using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. A web camera and video enabled device allows audio and visual for the visit.

What are the benefits of telemedicine versus an onsite clinic appointment?

With telemedicine, you receive medical care from the convenience of your home. You save time by not having to drive to the doctor’s office.

Are you HIPAA compliant?

Yes, the platform is fully HIPAA compliant and secure.

Who can be seen by Show-Me State Pediatrics?

The physicians evaluate and treat children from birth to 18 years of age. Due to licensing requirements, the child must physically be located in the state of Missouri during the visit.

What conditions do the physicians treat?

Please call 911 if you have a medical emergency!

The physicians treat minor medical illnesses such as:

  • colds
  • constipation
  • diarrhea
  • fever
  • minor sprains and strains
  • pink eye
  • rashes
  • seasonal allergies

What if my child needs a prescription?

The physicians follow current evidence-based guidelines. If your child needs a prescription, the medicine will be sent electronically to your pharmacy.

How do I get a note for school or work?

The physician will provide a note which will be accessible in your patient portal.

What if I have questions after my visit?

Please click the CONTACT button or send a message using the patient portal.

What if the physician can’t diagnose the problem?

In some instances, the physician may discover a more serious condition that needs to be evaluated in-person. The physician will work with you to determine if your child needs to be seen in the primary care office, an urgent care, or an ER. They will also determine when the follow up needs to occur. In all instances, the physician’s goal is to make certain your child receives the appropriate level of care.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Show-Me State Pediatrics, LLC accepts credit card payments directly from patients. Some patients use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to pay for the visit.

Why do you not take payments from insurance companies?

The physicians at Show-Me State Pediatrics want to devote their time to improving the health of children. This is best accomplished by working directly with families and their children.

What happens if I need to change the appointment?

As a courtesy to patients and physicians, please provide adequate notification if you need to cancel or reschedule. Payment policy is available for review at the time of appointment scheduling.

What conditions are not appropriate for pediatric telemedicine?

  • Medical emergencies (eg. difficulty breathing, altered mental status, seizures, severe injuries)
  • Mental health emergencies (suicidal or homicidal thoughts or actions)
  • Infections that need an in-person exam or testing, such as:
  • Pneumonia (unless the parent has a blue-tooth enabled stethoscope)
  • Ear infections (unless the parent has access to a remote device that allows the physician to view the ear drum)
  • Strep throat (unless the parent has downloaded the CurieDx app)
  • Urinary tract infections (unless the patient has a recent urine culture report)

Do you prescribe controlled substances (like narcotics or ADHD medications)?
